Chris Watson scored a first-period fall and Central Oklahoma had four other bonus-point wins in a 38-0 demolition of Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Truman State here Wednesday night.
The No. 3-ranked Bronchos didn't give up an offensive point in the rout, outscoring the Bulldogs 71-10 in the nine matches that went the distance while racking up 17 takedowns and 11 near-falls. It was the sixth straight win for UCO, which improved to 9-1 on the year and 4-0 in the league.
The Bronchos can wrap up the MIAA dual championship Thursday when it takes on Central Missouri at 7 p.m. in Warrensburg, Mo. That dual will be audio webcast here.
“It was a pretty good night overall, though we were a little sloppy and not as aggressive as we need to be in some places,” UCO coach David James said. “But anytime you can win all 10 matches you're doing something right and hopefully we can come back tomorrow ready to go again.”
Watson had the lone fall for the Bronchos at 165 pounds, with 133 Casy Rowell adding a technical fall and 125 Ryan Brooks, 174 Kelly Henderson and 184 Tanner Keck major decisions.
Brooks got UCO's dominance started early in the opening bout at 125, rolling to a 14-0 romp behind a three takedowns and two near-falls, and Rowell followed with a 15-0 blanking. It was the 18th straight win – including the fourth consecutive technical fall – for Rowell, who had a takedown and six near-falls to end the match before the end the of first period.
Trison Graham had a pair of takedowns in a methodical 6-2 triumph at 141 and top-ranked Jordan Basks slipped past Ryan Maus 3-1 on a takedown midway through the one-minute sudden-victory period to push UCO's lead to 15-0 with his 14th win in a row.
Cory Dauphin had a takedown, escape and riding time point in a 4-0 shutout at 157 before Henderson and Keck added back-to-back 10-2 wins. Henderson had four takedowns in his rout, while Keck had a pair of takedowns and two near-falls.
UCO wrapped up the shutout with decisions by 197 Znick Ferrell and heavyweight Cody Dauphin, with Ferrell using a takedown and reverse in a 5-2 victory and Dauphin a first-period takedown in a 4-0 win.
