RSU's Felipe competes in NAIA National Cross Country Championship

CLAREMORE — Rogers State cross country runner Brenda Felipe is set to compete at the 33rd Annual NAIA Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

Felipe, a sophomore from Poteau, Okla., earned her spot at the championship after placing second at the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship earlier this month. She is a two-time all-conference performer and is making her second consecutive trip to the national meet. Last year she placed 53rd out of 323 runners, finishing seventh among the 91 freshman competing at the NAIA Championships.

A total of 655 student-athletes, 327 men and 328 women, from 133 different schools will line up on Saturday morning to vie for individual and team titles. The 5,000-meter women's race will begin at 10:30 a.m. (PST) while the 8,000-meter men's race will get underway at 11:45 a.m. (PST). Following the competitions, an awards ceremony honoring the champions, scholar-athlete award winners and newly minted All-Americans will take place at Hudson's Bay High School.
