The Will Rogers Junior High School eighth-grade Zebras clinched the Coweta Tigers Classic championship with a 48-40 win over Lincoln Christian Saturday afternoon.
Aaron McCullough tallied 12 points and Devon Brown added 11 to spark the Zebras’ offense.
Levi Chasteen followed with nine points, while Caleb Taylor and Keegan Hisey had eight apiece.
The Zebras raced out to a 13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. Will Rogers JH outscored Lincoln Christian, 14-12 to extend its halftime lead to 27-19.
The inside scoring of McCullough and Brown, as well as the guard play of Taylor and Hisey helped the Zebras hold off the Bulldogs in the second half.
WRJH held a 21-19 scoring edge over Lincoln Christian after halftime.
On Monday, the Zebras punished Bishop Kelley, 58-14.
WRJH opened with a 16-0 first quarter lead and cruised to a 31-6 margin at halftime.
Hisey tallied a team-high 12 points and Chance Knaust had nine to lead the Zebras.
Also contributing in scoring for the Zebras were McCullough with eight, Brown and Chasteen with six each, Jonathan Cox and Taylor with four each, Bo Mallett with three and Jake McGuire with two.
This year’s eighth-grade Zebras are coached by Wes Coleman.
