9th grade Zebras open 2012-13 basketball season

TULSA — The Claremore ninth-grade Zebras dropped a heartbreaker Monday night, falling 51-50 to Bishop Kelley in Tulsa.

Hutch Helbig led the charge for the Zebras, finishing with a game-high 26 points. Xavier Jackson also contributed with 10 points.

Dakota Rader and Ian Protzman scored four points each, while Garrett Reynolds, Brian Varner and Jake Parsons tallied two points apiece.

Over the weekend at the Pryor Tournament, the Zebras brought home the third place trophy following a 49-36 win over the Pryor Tigers.

Helbig and Jackson scored in double figures with 23 and 18 points respectively. Varner added five points, followed by Protzman with two and Parsons with one.

Claremore also lost to Verdigris, 51-26; and beat Miami, 44-39 in overtime.

This year’s ninth-grade Zebras include: Garrett Reynolds, Aaron Farmer, Joe Clifton, Spencer Sullivan, Hutch Helbig, Brian Varner, C.J. Downum, Xavier Jackson, Christian Klassen, Colton Wilson, Dakota Rader, Jake Parsons, Curtis Milliken, Leondre Williams, Alex Starkey, Ian Protzman, Ashton Mobra, Zack Kays, Jose Gonzalez and Nathan Casillas.
