TENNIS: Lady Zebras take 2nd place

CLAREMORE — Claremore head tennis coach Mike Larimer caught a glimpse Thursday afternoon at what the future holds for the Lady Zebras program.

The Lady Zebras, playing without sophomore Madison Coleman and junior Morgan Johnson, battled to a second-place overall finish with 23 points.

Bartlesville won the Lady Zebra Classic with 31 points while Claremore and Muskogee tied for second place.

Claremore’s best finish in the classic came in No. 2 doubles as juniors Elizabeth Burns and Katlin Schwartz won their first two matches decisively.

In the finals, Muskogee won the tie-breaking match, 10-2 to claim first place. Muskogee took the first set, 2-6, but Burns/Schwartz rallied in the second set to win 6-1.

In No. 1 doubles, Claremore’s Kaleigh Cox and Bailey Wilton placed third after beating Sand Springs in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Cox/Wilton dueled it out in the semifinals with Tahlequah, before falling 7-6, 7-6.

In No. 1 singles, Claremore sophomore Ashley Rogers came in fourth place after losing 6-0, 6-4 to Muskogee. Rogers won her first match over Tahlequah, 6-1, 6-1; and then dropped a semifinals match to Bartlesville, 7-5, 6-0.
