LUBBOCK, Texas —
The No. 3-ranked Rogers State softball team dropped a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference game against Lubbock Christian on Saturday afternoon at Plains Capital Park.
A three-run third inning proved to be the difference in the opener as the Chaps registered a 3-0 victory. In the nightcap, the Hillcat trailed 1-0 going into the seventh inning but battled to knot the score 1-1. The Lady Chaps extinguished the Cats extra inning hopes and walked-off with the 2-1 victory in the bottom of the inning.
The Hillcats left a runner on base in the first two innings and the Lady Chaps dented the scoreboard in the third inning. Ashton Bell was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the third frame for the Chaps. LCU then strung together three hits and used a sacrifice fly to plate a trio of runs.
The Hillcats left two runners on base in the fourth and stranded one runner in the sixth. The three-run advantage was all Katera Eltsosie (18-3) needed to seal the winfor LCU. The pitcher tossed a complete game victory, allowing four hits with five strikeouts.
Laura Fleck (23-4) was tagged with the loss in the circle for the Cats as she allowed three earned runs on eight hits.
Tara Threet was the lone Hillcat to tally multiple hits in the game as she went 2-for-3 in the contest.
The Chaps took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and the Hillcats battled to tie the game the rest of the way. With their backs against the wall, the Hillcats tallied the equalizer in the top of the seventh.
Candace Monigold opened the top of the seventh with a single up the middle. She moved to second base on a wild pitch and stole third base. The Broken Arrow, Okla. native scored on a wild throw by the catch to knot the score. RSU put runners on first and second with no outs but LCU retired the next three batters to keep the Hillcats from taking the lead.
Stephanie Rendon ended the game in the bottom of the seventh with a lead off home run to give the Lady Chaps the walk-off win.
Fleck (23-5) was tagged with the complete-game loss as she allowed two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Katera Eltsosie (19-3) earned the win as she closed out the seventh inning, facing just three batters with two strikeouts.
Rogers State (32-5, 8-4) will look to return to the win column on Tuesday with four games at the Diamond Sports Complex. The Cats will face Bacone in a twin bill at 1 p.m. followed by a doubleheader against Ecclesia starting at 6 p.m.
