SOFTBALL: NSU drops pair to No. 8 UCO

EDMOND — The Northeastern State softball team was swept by No. 8 Central Oklahoma in a road doubleheader Sunday at Broncho Field.



The Bronchos (33-7, 17-1 MIAA) improved their win streak to 13 games with a 5-3 victory in the opener and a 4-2 win in the nightcap.



The RiverHawks (19-19, 11-7 MIAA) will now step out of conference action for a doubleheader with Bacone at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Muskogee.



UCO 5, NSU 3 (first game)



Three runs in the second and a pair of game-winners in the fifth would be enough to send the Bronchos to a victory. UCO outhit NSU 8-6 and both teams committed a single error.



Senior Kelsi Hilderbrandt finished 2-for-2 with a solo home run in the sixth. Senior Lisa Ripperger also hit a homer in the fourth, plating herself and junior Amanda Harjo.



Senior Cayce Coleman (6-5) threw a complete game in the circle and allowed five runs on eight hits. Kalynn Schrock (19-3) struck out 10 and allowed three runs on six hits in 7 innings.



Nicole Workman was 2-for-2 with a home run for the Bronchos, and Hayley Hudson also hit a homer.



UCO 4, NSU 2 (second game)



The Bronchos plated two in the first inning and added runs in the third and sixth frames to secure the sweep over NSU.



Freshman Saharra Henson scored in the third and junior Allyson Pogue, of Claremore, touched home in the fifth for the RiverHawks.



UCO outhit NSU 7-5 and was led by Workman’s 2-for-3 effort. She also hit a home run.



Amanda McClelland (8-1) allowed two runs on five hits in 6 innings to pick up the win. Schrock struck out the side in the top of the seventh to pick up her fourth save of the season.



Five different members of the road team had hits, and junior Madison Reed and Harjo both recorded an RBI.



Freshman Kayce Wooldridge (6-10) threw a complete game and allowed four runs on seven hits.
