5A SOCCER PLAYOFFS: No. 2 Lady Zebras face Cascia Hall in quarterfinals

CLAREMORE — The No. 2-ranked Claremore Lady Zebras are two wins away from making school history and playing for a 5A state championship.

Claremore’s road to state continues at 6 p.m. tonight in the Class 5A quarterfinals against traditionally-rich Cascia Hall at Lantow Field.

In 2013, Claremore lost to Booker T. Washington on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals.

This year, though, Claremore hopes to change its fortunes and continue to ride the momentum behind its 11-game winning streak.

In the opening round of this year’s playoffs Tuesday night, Claremore’s offense exploded right out of the gate with Taylor Williams and Olivia Maulsby setting the tone early.

Williams and Maulsby, as well as senior midfielder Katelin Teter, helped Claremore race out to a 5-0 lead in the first half.

Claremore’s powerful offensive attack tallied four goals in the second half and enjoyed a dominating 10-0 victory over Tahlequah.

Tonight, though, Claremore’s offense battles a tougher opponent in Cascia Hall.

Cascia Hall is led by senior forward Carlie Cook — a former standout player from Claremore — that knows the Lady Zebra lineup very well from her time in the program as well as playing club soccer in Tulsa.

In their first-round game, Cascia Hall shutout Pryor, 4-0 as Cook scored a goal and her teammate Ferrell added the hat trick.

The winner of the Claremore-Cascia Hall match will move on to the 5A semifinals against the winner of No. 1 Edmond Deer Creek or Oklahoma City Heritage Hall.
