GOLF: Losornio shoots 73 for 2nd place after Day 1 of 2A state tourney

OKLAHOMA CITY — Claremore Christian senior Addison Losornio fired a 73 during the opening round of the Class 2A State Golf Tournament Wednesday morning at Trosper Park Golf Club in Oklahoma City.

Losornio was one stroke behind first-place Shelbie Black of Nowata. Two other golfers also shot a 73 to tie with Losornio.

Fletcher’s Sierra Holden and Riverfield’s Kate Goodwin both shot an opening-round 73.

Turner maintained the first-place lead with a 310, while Mooreland was second with a 342 and Latta was third with a 344.

Chisholm also had a 372 for fourth place, followed by Latta in fifth with a 385.

Turner’s Perri McGill fired a 74, while Oktaha’s Jayli Roper shot a 76 and Mooreland’s Rylie Eller had a 77. Andi McGill of Turner also contributed with a 77.

Rounding out the top scores were: Turner’s Shelby Odell with a 78, Timberlake’s Ami Adkisson with a 78 and Summit Christian’s Skylar Woessner with a 79.

Rejoice Christian’s Emi Bias fired an 85 during opening-round play.

    For the second-straight year, the Claremore Zebra student training staff will be represented in the Oklahoma Coaches All-State games held in Tulsa.
    Meranda Golbek and Sarah Szcinski, a pair of 2014 Claremore High School graduates, earned All-State honors for their athletic training careers and will join two other student trainers from Jenks and Stillwater High School on the East squad.

     Instead of engaging in another round of contradictory, back-and-forth podium sessions with Mike Shanahan, Robert Griffin III stood at the microphone and said he has coaches who believe in him. He implied he wasn't even allowed to do ''the bare minimum'' as a quarterback a year ago.

     Blake Griffin has withdrawn from playing for the U.S. national basketball team this summer.

    The Los Angeles Clippers star was one of 19 players selected to the roster from which the World Cup team will be chosen.

  • C-USA commish sees bright future in changing times

    Conference USA commissioner Britton Banowsky knows at least one thing won't change with autonomy for the five power conferences to make their own bylaws.

    "There's been a differentiator whether you call them BCS, non-BCS," Banowsky said Wednesday. "I'm not naive to think that there won't be some continued differentiation."

    Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer has spent considerable time this summer trying to find flaws in Jameis Winston's game.

    He's still searching.

    Oklahoma State opens the season against last year's Heisman Trophy winner and defending national champion Florida State on Aug. 30 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Though practice doesn't start until Aug. 1, Spencer already is stressed about dealing with Winston.

  • BIG 12: Sooners ready to move past Sugar Bowl win

    Oklahoma got a lot of attention with its upset victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

    As good as it was for the program, the Sooners are looking forward. The Big 12 favorites begin practice Aug. 5 in preparation for the Aug. 30 opener against Louisiana Tech.
