CHICKASHA — In a game in which No. 14 Rogers State won the first and second half it wasn’t until a three-pointer from the corner by Ariani Silva with 1.8 seconds left that sealed the victory for RSU.

The Hillcats opened Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 66-64 win over USAO Thursday night inside the USAO Fieldhouse.

The Lady Drovers were unable to convert on four free throws in the final 22 seconds of play leading to the heroic shot from the corner by Silva.

RSU held a 33-32 advantage at the intermission but the seesaw affair continued in the second half. USAO led by as many as four in the final 40 seconds of play but missed opportunities at the charity stripe. RSU point guard Kelby Fritz connected on three free throws with 22 seconds to go giving the Cats breath in the closing seconds.

Fritz finished with 16 points to lead the way for RSU. Silva closed out the game with just seven points while Sierra Cornwell added 10 points in the start along with six assists and three steals.

Senior forward Logan Froese moved closer to 1,000 career points as the Claremore, Okla. native finished with 13 points. Froese sits just 17 points shy of the career mark at 983.

USAO (9-4, 0-1) outrebounded the Hillcats 41 to 33. Leading the way in the scorebook for the Lady Drovers was Medrano Rocio with 20. Tashina Ototivo finished with a double-double for USAO with 12 points and 10 boards.
