Oologah senior forward Taylor McElhaney waited til the second-half to showcase her skills on the hardwood.
On Friday in the semifinals of the Oologah Mustangs Basketball Tournament, McElhaney tallied 13 points in the final 16 minutes to spark Oologah into the championship game with a 47-23 win over Claremore Sequoyah.
Clinging to a 19-11 halftime lead, McElhaney took over in the third quarter as Oologah outscored Sequoyah, 15-5 and extended the deficit to 34-16.
Brinley Evans joined McElhaney in double-figures with a game-high 16 points.
Both teams battled to a 9-9 tie at the end of the first quarter, but Oologah’s feisty defense wreaked havoc on Sequoyah’s guard play.
Evans scored the majority of her points in transition as Oologah forced 17 Sequoyah turnovers.
Aubryana Matussak led Sequoyah with 11 points.
The Lady Mustangs advanced to Saturday’s championship against Fort Gibson, who defeated Catoosa, 52-29.
The Sequoyah Lady Eagles battled Catoosa Saturday afternoon in the third-place game.
