Pryor qualifies 12 for 5A State Track Meet

PRYOR — Pryor will send a dozen athletes to the Class 5A state meet Friday after a strong showing Saturday at a Class 5A regional at Tahlequah High School.

Once again, the Tigers swept the hurdle events, with Jaquwan Blaylock earning gold in the 110 meters and Ryan Northcutt swiping first place in the 300 meters.

Blaylock's time of 15.81 was exactly one second better than Northcutt in the 110 meters. Both qualified in the 110 and 300 meters, as Blaylock claimed second place in the latter race and Northcutt earned bronze in the 110.

Tiffany Atkins' leap of 14 feet, 6.75 inches was good for a silver medal in the long jump, and teammate Courtney Miller's 35-foot, 10.25-inch toss in the shot put was enough for another silver medal for the Tiger girls.

Alyissa Harry took bronze in the girls 400-meter race with a 1:02.52 clock.

On the boys' side, Jabar Bennett's third-place finish in the 400 meters landed him his second spot in a state event. Bennett and Blaylock teamed with Austin LaFave and Lance Livingston to finish third in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:35.44.

Pole-vaulter Scott Hill continued his strong season, qualifying for state with a second-place vault of 13 feet, 6 inches.

The Pryor boys finished fourth overall at Tahlequah.

Three individuals and a relay team were named at-large qualifiers to the state meet at Yukon High School, which will begin Friday with field events at 10 a.m.

Brett Stevens will run in three events at state: the 1,600 meters, the 3,200 meters and the 4x800-meter relay. Stevens will team with Bennett, Livingston and Cody Waters in the two-mile relay.

Kendall Odle qualified in the girls 3,200 meters, and Kyle Goforth qualified in the boys discus throw.
