Chancellor powers Lady Zebras to victory

CLAREMORE — Claremore freshman forward Lauren Chancellor has taken her game to a higher level since the opening tip back in December.

In Friday’s 52-39 win over Tahlequah, Chancellor powered the Lady Zebras’ offensive attack with 16 points — including 10 in the second half.

The 5-foot-9 freshman has started every game and gives Claremore head coach Stephanie Shaw an added scoring punch in the paint.

As Claremore built a 24-18 halftime lead, Chancellor and senior guards Kaleigh Cox and Anna McGuire took over in the final 16 minutes.

McGuire tallied 12 points — 9 of which came in the first half on three 3-pointers — and Cox added eight.

Chancellor’s jumper with 1:59 remaining in the third quarter pushed Claremore’s lead to 35-23.

After a 3-pointer by Morgan Johnson, Chancellor capped the scoring with a baseline jumper to extend Claremore’s lead to 40-26 going into the fourth quarter.

Tahlequah got the deficit to 10 points — 41-31 — on Whitney Wright’s 3-pointer with 4:52 left in the game.

The Lady Zebras, however, only converted one field goal in the fourth quarter, but finished 10-of-18 at the free throw line to secure the win.

Claremore’s victory over Tahlequah also kept the Lady Zebras perfect at home this season.

Lindsey Wade led Tahlequah with 16 points and Kacady Glory contributed with 11.
