Upshaw shoots Cardinals past Siloam Springs JV

INOLA — Verdigris sophomore guard Cade Upshaw tallied a game-high 18 points to lead the Cardinals past the Siloam Springs JV Panthers, 82-37 Monday afternoon in the first round of the Jerry Oquin Classic.

Upshaw drained four treys in the second half for 13 of his 18 points.

Behind Upshaw’s offensive prowess, the Cardinals outscored Siloam Springs JV, 48-17 in the final 16 minutes.

The first quarter proved to be nip-and-tuck as Verdigris led 16-10. However, Upshaw and the bench scoring of Dakota Brasher sparked the Cardinals to a 34-20 halftime lead.

Brasher joined Upshaw in double figures with 12 points, while Chase Bryant also finished with 14.

The Cardinals drained 10 treys for 30 of their 82 points. Upshaw had five long-range bombs, followed by two from Brad Combs. Also contributing from the perimeter were Leonard Brockup, Bryant and Laef Payne.

Siloam Springs JV was led in scoring by Pierce with 13 points. Williams and Gregory also finished with six points each.

The Cardinals return to action on Friday in the semifinals.

    Claremore senior goalkeeper Sam Lillie made the most of his first and last varsity start Tuesday night against Skiatook on Senior Night at Lantow Field.
    For 40 minutes, Lillie was flawless in the goal, allowing only one goal and making several tenacious stops against the fiery Bulldogs.
    The second-half, however, told a different story as No. 3 Skiatook scored four goals and enjoyed a 5-0 win over the No. 15 Zebras.

  • Berryhill’s White strikes out 17, tosses no-hitter over No. 1 Verdigris

    Top-ranked Class 3A Verdigris got White-washed by 4A No.3 Berryhill on Tuesday night.
    In a battle of 2013 state champions, Chiefs’ ace Nick White — a future Oklahoma State pitcher —  fired a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts, igniting a 5-0 victory over the Cardinals.

    Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College's Roddricka Patton and Rylie Swanson, a product of Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, both signed National Letters of Intent and will join the OSU program for the upcoming season.
