CLAREMORE — The Claremore High School basketball teams look for a pair of Metro Lakes Conference wins tonight at Tahlequah.

Head coach Stephanie Shaw leads her Lady Zebras into action at 6 p.m. against the Class 5A No. 11 Tahlequah Lady Tigers, who are 4-6 on the season.

Behind the scoring of freshman forward Lauren Chancellor and senior guards Kaleigh Cox and Anna McGuire, the Lady Zebras (6-2 overall and 4-1 conference) are currently riding a four-game win streak.

In last Friday’s 51-27 win over Pryor, Chancellor tallied a game-high 15 points and Cox finished with 10 to lead the Lady Zebras’ offense. McGuire also contributed with five points and seven rebounds.

Sharp-shooting sophomore guard Monica Taylor continued to be a force on the perimeter, adding three treys for nine points.

On the season, Taylor has converted 24 three-point baskets in eight games.

Meanwhile, the Zebras enter tonight’s 7:30 p.m. showdown fresh off a win over Grove and a hard-fought loss to Pryor.

The Zebras (2-6 overall, 2-3 conference) are led by senior guard T.J. Wood, who continues to bring instant offense from the perimeter, and freshman point guard Jeff Oxford.

Wood capitalized with four long-range three-pointers for 12 points in Claremore’s 55-50 loss to Pryor.

Earlier this season, Wood had a career-high six three-pointers for 20 points against Shiloh Christian at the Siloam Springs (Ark.) Holiday Invitational.

Oxford, meanwhile, has raised his level of intensity over the past two weeks and stepped into the starting point guard role.

In the Pryor game, Oxford tallied 13 points  — nine in the first half — to spark Claremore’s balanced offense.

The Zebras face a Tahlequah squad that is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in conference.
