Sloppy, yet victorious for the Claremore Lady Zebras.
Behind Lauren Chancellor’s game-high 15 points and Kaleigh Cox’s 10, the Lady Zebras whipped Pryor, 51-27 Friday night in Metro Lakes Conference play at the Burdick Center.
With the win, the Lady Zebras improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in conference.
Both teams showed an inability to set any offensive momentum in the first half, as the first quarter ended in a 6-6 tie, and the Lady Zebras carrying a 19-10 lead into halftime.
Claremore, though, pulled away in the second half and took advantage of Pryor’s poor ball-handling.
Morgan Johnson’s wide-open three-pointer off the assist from Cox increased Claremore’s lead to 26-14 with 3:50 left in the third quarter.
After a Pryor layup made it 26-16, the Lady Zebras closed out the third quarter on a 10-0 run.
Chancellor and Cox combined for eight of the 10 points during a three-minute stretch to push Claremore’s lead to 36-16 going into the fourth quarter.
Along with Chancellor and Cox, Monica Taylor buried three three-pointers for nine points and Anna McGuire added five points.
Hunter Gilstrap led Pryor with seven points.
In the night-cap, Pryor overcame a 23-21 halftime deficit to outlast the Zebras, 55-50.
Claremore’s Truman Burrage had a pair of three-point opportunities in the closing seconds rim out, and Pryor answered with two free throws to seal the five-point victory.
Jeff Oxford and T.J. Wood sparked the Zebras with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Burrage also contributed with nine points on three treys.
A pair of treys by Burrage in the fourth quarter gave Claremore a 46-42 with 6:06 remaining.
Pryor, though, relied heavily on the inside presence of Spencer Henson, who finished with 13 second-half points.
Henson scored 11 of his 13 in the third quarter to help Pryor even the margin at 40-40 going into the final eight minutes.
Tyler Arnold led Pryor with 14 points, while Robert Ross added 12 and Ryan Ogg finished with 10.
