Zebra baseball scrimmages Oologah

CLAREMORE — The Claremore Zebras will hold a varsity baseball scrimmage at 3:30 p.m. today against Oologah at Legion Field.

Claremore, who finished second in Class 5A in 2013, looks to make its third-straight appearance in the state finals under veteran head coach Brent Payne.

This year's Zebras returns four-year starting catcher Matt Whatley, senior shortstop Cole Weiesnbach, senior pitcher/first baseman Bryce Howe and senior second baseman T.J. Wood that have varsity experience. Also expected to see valuable playing time will be junior left-handed pitcher/first baseman Cameron Smith and senior third baseman Cody Tyre.

Several freshmen that are expected to see time in the lineup are outfielder Brady Brim, second baseman Dustin Weiesnbach and first baseman Nick Dotson.

The Zebras will open their regular-season at 4:30 p.m. on March 7 at East Central.
