SOFTBALL: No. 3 OCU sweeps Avila (Mo.)

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City University swept a doubleheader with Avila (Mo.) 7-1 and 7-0 Sunday at Ann Lacy Stadium.

Kylee Rounsaville drove in five runs on the day to help power the Stars, ranked No.3 in NAIA softball, past the Eagles. The sweep moves OCU to 8-1 on the season.

The Stars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of game No. 1 when Maxime van Dalen's sacrifice fly drove in Kyndra Holasek.

Rounsaville singled to center field in the bottom of the third and plated Amanda Ingram from third base to make the score 2-0 in favor of OCU.

After surrendering a run in the top of the sixth, the Stars erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Daniella Costaganna singled to center and drove in the first run of the inning. Ingram and Costaganna both scored on Avila miscues to stretch the OCU lead to 5-1.

Cheyanne Terry capped the inning with a two-RBI single up the middle and handed the Stars a 7-1 advantage.

Maria Gomez struck out the final two Avila batters in the top of the seventh to give OCU the 7-1 victory. Gomez tossed seven innings, allowed one run on four hits and struck out seven to earn the victory.

Rounsaville broke the second game open in the bottom of the third when she crushed a grand-slam home run over the left-center field fence to make the score 4-0.

Jocelin Diaz scored in the bottom of the fourth to stretch the OCU lead to 5-0.

Holasek smacked a two-run homer to left center in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 7-0 and put the game out of reach.

Jamie Rateliff tossed five innings of scoreless ball and struck out two to pick up the win. Maci-Brooke Lambert struck out one in two innings of scoreless relief.

OCU will return to Sooner Athletic Conference action against USAO at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Chickasha, Okla.
