ORU women's basketball adds Finland guard

TULSA — Oral Roberts University Head Coach Misti Cussen is proud to announce that Noora Jaervikangas has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Golden Eagle women’s basketball program for the 2013-14 season. Jaervikangas is the 10th new addition to the 2013-14 ORU roster.

“We’re very excited to add Noora to our program, and we expect her to be a great contributor for us,” said Cussen. “Noora is a seasoned veteran of international basketball and will bring a polished offensive game to our team next season.”

Jaervikangas hails from Helsinki, Finland, and she graduated from Makelanrinne Sports High. A 6-0 guard with a deadly outside shot, Jaervikangas played club basketball from Forssan Alku in her native Finland, where she averaged 5.0 points per game and was named the team’s top youth player at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Jaervikangas made 54 appearances for Finland’s international youth teams and had a breakout summer in 2012. Jaervikangas was Finland’s leading scorer at the 2012 U18 Nordic Championship and the 2012 FIBA U18 European Championship, when she tallied 10.3 points per game.

Jaervikangas is the daughter of Kimmo and Tiina Jaervikangas. She plans to major in biology at ORU, with a concentration in pre-med studies.

Oral Roberts went 18-13 last season and won the Southland Conference regular season and tournament titles. The Golden Eagles advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in program history, falling to Tennessee in the opening round.
