ROGERS, Ark. —
Griffin Pierce of Edmond, Okla., won the Boys Division of the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior Open with a tournament total of 3-over-par 219 at Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club. Summar Roachell of Conway, Ark., claimed the Girls Division victory for her first AJGA win at her last career event.
Conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior Open was a 54-hole stroke play competition played on the par-72 course Lost Springs Golf & Athletic Club. The event featured 72 boys and 24 girls, ages 12-18, from 16 states, Argentina, Canada and Mexico. The Boys Division played the course at 6,905 yards while the Girls Division played the course at 5,973 yards.
Pierce secured his win with two birdies early in the round for a final-round score of 4-over-par 76 that paced the boys division by two strokes with a tournament total of 3-over-par 219.
“My birdies on the front really kept me in it,” Pierce said. “One was an up-and-down on No. 9 from 40 yards out of the rough and over the bunker and the other one was when I hit it just short of the par-5 No. 3 in two strokes, pretty simple birdies.”
Garrett May of Hope, Ark., finished in second with a tournament total of 5-over-par 221. Tied for third were Spencer Papciak of Dunwoody, Ga., Beau Briggs of Convington, La., Preston Crawford of Tulsa, Okla., and Evan Shartzer of Overland Park, Kan., with tournament totals of 6-over-par 222.
In the Girls Division, Roachell fired five birdies during the final round to post a 3-under-par 69. The Arkansas native finished the week with a tournament total of 2-under-par 214.
“I chipped in for birdie on No. 2 and then hit it to about two feet on No. 5,” Roachell said. “I then made a really good par save on No. 8 that kept the momentum going.”
Cheyenne Knight of Aledo, Texas, finished in second with a tournament total of even-over-par 216. Jordy LaBarbera of Allen, Texas, and Kristen Gillman of Austin, Texas, tied for third with scores of 3-over-par 219.
