STILLWATER — Freshman quarterback Wes Lunt may be the Oklahoma State University’s starter but red-shirt freshman J.W. Walsh received significant playing time in the Cowboys’ 84-0 victory over Savannah State University.
“Anytime you get to play in front of 60,000 is an incredible feeling,” Walsh said. “It’s an honor to play for a great program and the people you get to play in front of.”
Walsh completed 13 of 21 passes for 149 yards and threw two touchdown passes. The game started rough as Walsh threw an interception and Austin Hays fumbled on his first two drives.
After that, Walsh led scoring drives on five of the next seven possessions. Walsh said it was nice to get into a rhythm.
“Everything is clicking and everything is going good,” Walsh said. “The biggest thing for us is it’s always going to be about us and what we do. The mistakes we make are usually the reason we don’t score. If we eliminate those, we will always move the ball pretty well.”
