Pioneer Playday making strides to keep event fun for whole family

(Continued)

STILLWATER — “We’re excited,” Walstad said. “The first year is always a little nerve racking because we don’t know what to expect, but we know that this is a positive addition for the playday. We are trying to make it more than just a golf tournament, so I think it will be good.”

It’s that kind of thinking that brought Walstad to the idea of the fun run and fashion show. She wanted something not just designed for golfers and sports memorabilia aficionados, but something for people of all ages.

“With the fun run, we do want to make it a family event,” Walstad said. “There’s no age limit on the fun run. We are saying no strollers just because it is going to be on the cart path, so we thought strollers might be a little bit of a hindrance this first year until we see what it’s like. But other than that, anybody is welcome to the fun run. For $20, you can’t beat it. It’s a chance to get out, run the front nine of the golf course with Starbucks coffee when you finish and a great T-shirt. The best part is the money is all going back toward the junior high and high school athletics.”

While the fun run costs $20 and includes a T-shirt and Starbucks coffee at the finish, entrance into the fashion show will cost $30 and will include wine and horderves.

Walstad said she’s already had some brave souls that have not only signed up for the fun run, but are also playing in the golf tournament and she has dared others to take on the Ironman-like challenge.

“We do have some that said they were going to do their morning jog at the fun run, then run into the club and take a shower before playing at the 8 a.m. tee time,” Walstad said.
