No. 18 Lady 'Cats bounce OBU in doubleheader

CLAREMORE — The No. 18-ranked Rogers State softball team swept a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader over Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday afternoon at the Diamond Sports Complex.

OBU knotted the score in the top of the second with some help from the Hillcat defense. Noelle McDowell started the rally with a one-out single. With two outs, Shalee Cordell hit a single to right field but right fielder Jamie King missed played the ball, allowing McDowell to score from first base.

The Hillcats regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as Cailin Simpson singled off the wall in left-center field and stole second. Simpson stole third and advanced home on a throwing error by the catcher who tried to catch her stealing. RSU added to its lead in the third with a RBI single by Taran Threet.

Simpson drew a walk in the fourth and scored on a two-out single by Jamie King to push the Hillcat lead to 4-1. After a scoreless fifth, Threet lead off the sixth with a first-pitch home run smashed over the left field fence.

In the top of the seventh, Amanda Harmon kept the Lady Bison alive with a two-out single. OBU strung together two more singles to send Harmon home but RSU pitcher Laura Fleck forced the next batter to ground out to end the inning.
