CLAREMORE — Verdigris senior third baseman Ryan Skalnik and Claremore Sequoyah senior pitcher McKaine Foster helped lead the Midwest Warducks to the 17U Oklahoma State University Southwest Tournament of Champions World Series qualifier last weekend in Stillwater.

The Warducks are coached by Jason Arrowood and comprised of players from northeastern Oklahoma, Arkansas and Kansas.

Over the course of three days, Skalnik went 9-for-22 (.409 average) with five RBIs and seven runs scored from the leadoff spot in the lineup.

In the 6-4 championship victory over the Dallas Stars, Skalnik went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

According to Skalnik’s dad, Lance, “Ryan is receiving recruiting interest from Stanford, Florida Gulf Coast, Bradley, Wichita State, St. Joseph’s University and Neosho County Community College.”

Along with his strong performance at the plate, Skalnik also contributed with 1 1/3 innings in the Warducks’ win over the Oklahoma Bearcats. Skalnik had four strikeouts with no earned runs against the Bearcats.

Foster, meanwhile, struck out three and picked up the win over Oklahoma Baseball in the semifinals.

The Warducks, according to Lance Skalnik, are now headed to East Cobb, Ga., to play in the prestigious Perfect Game 18U World Wood Bat Association National Championship. There will be 184 teams from all over the United States competing over an eight-day period to win the title.
