OU's Hughes names baseball coaching staff

NORMAN — Pete Hughes, who was named the University of Oklahoma baseball coach on June 27, has announced his OU coaching staff. Hughes brings in Mike Anderson, formerly the head coach at Nebraska, and retains pitching coach Jack Giese and coordinator of baseball operations Ryan Gaines.

Anderson coached the Huskers for nine seasons from 2003-11, leading them to a College World Series appearance in 2005. He owns a 337-196-2 career record and led Nebraska to a 125-116-1 record in the Big 12 Conference, including regular season championships in 2003 and 2005 as well as Big 12 Coach of the Year awards in those two seasons. The Huskers added a Big 12 Tournament Championship at the conclusion of 2005.

"Mike is one of the most accomplished head coaches in the profession," stated Hughes. "He has recruited players to teams that have gone on to Omaha. He is truly a first class human being."

In nine seasons, Nebraska made the NCAA Tournament five times, all in Anderson's first six seasons. The Huskers hosted an NCAA Regional on four occasions over that stretch, including 2006 when they earned a national seed for the first time in program history.

For the 2013 season, Anderson coached at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo.

Prior to being named the head coach, Anderson served as an assistant at Nebraska from 1994-02, helping the Huskers reach Omaha for the first time in 2001 and again in 2002. He made his debut coaching at the collegiate level in 1992 at his alma mater, Northern Colorado. Anderson also worked as a head coach at the Northern Colorado Lab School for four years as well as spending two seasons as a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Anderson played outfield at Northern Colorado from 1983-86 and later returned to earn his bachelor's degree in physical education in 1990 after a three-year stint in the California Angels farm system.

    Claremore senior goalkeeper Sam Lillie made the most of his first and last varsity start Tuesday night against Skiatook on Senior Night at Lantow Field.
    For 40 minutes, Lillie was flawless in the goal, allowing only one goal and making several tenacious stops against the fiery Bulldogs.
    The second-half, however, told a different story as No. 3 Skiatook scored four goals and enjoyed a 5-0 win over the No. 15 Zebras.

    In a battle of 2013 state champions, Chiefs’ ace Nick White — a future Oklahoma State pitcher —  fired a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts, igniting a 5-0 victory over the Cardinals.

    Trinity Valley (Texas) Community College's Roddricka Patton and Rylie Swanson, a product of Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, both signed National Letters of Intent and will join the OSU program for the upcoming season.
