Basks earns Tulsa World All-Metro honors

Zebra kickoff returner named to 2nd team

CLAREMORE — Claremore junior kickoff returner Dustin Basks proved to be a ‘game-changer’ for 11 weeks of the 2013 high school football season.

Basks (5-9, 160) capped off his impressive year with 13 kickoff returns for 474 yards and three touchdowns as well as seven punt returns for 257 yards and two touchdowns. He accounted for 1,844 all-purpose yards, earning the Zebra play-maker second-team recognition on the Tulsa World All-Metro Football Team.

In the Class 5A playoff game at Shawnee, Basks returned a punt 93 yards for a touchdown.

The talented speedster averaged 36.46 yards on kickoff returns and 36.71 yards on punt returns.

Along with Basks, a pair of Rogers County offensive linemen — Catoosa’s Wyatt Pennington and Oologah’s Tyler Base — received first-team Tulsa World All-Metro Football honors.

Pennington and Base help power Catoosa’s and Oologah’s running games  deep into the Class 4A state playoffs.

Wagoner senior running back Lawrence Evitt was named the Tulsa World All-Metro Football Player of the Year after rushing for 2,641 yards this season.

The first-team offensive honorees are: QB Coleman Key, Broken Arrow;  RB Lawrence Evitt, Wagoner; RB Gage Stallworth, Cushing; WR Jeffery Mead, Union; WR Slade Nordic, Bartlesville; WR Austin Reed, Broken Arrow; OL Tyler Base, Oologah; OL Chandler Miller, Bixby; OL Wyatt Pennington, Catoosa; OL Bewley Wales, Metro Christian and OL Ryan Woolman, Locust Grove.

The first-team defensive honorees are: DL Jordan Brailford, B.T. Washington; DL Tramal Ivy, Muskogee; DL Jeremy Smith, Berryhill; DL Skyler Wood, Nowata; LB Coleby Evans, Jenks; LB Trent Taber, Jenks; LB Luke Thompson, Jenks; DB Tre Betts, Sand Springs; DB Dylan Harding, Jenks; DB Ben Johnson, Sapulpa and DB Steven Parker, Jenks.

First-team kicker went Luke Beasley, B.T. Washington and first-team punter went to Zane McElroy, Collinsville.
