PRYOR — Since falling to Sapulpa in the season opener, the Class 5A No. 4-ranked Claremore Lady Zebras have won five consecutive matches.

Behind the aggressive play of forward Taylor Williams and the stingy defense of seniors Jentry Cruce and Anna McGuire, the Lady Zebras blanked Pryor, 2-0 Tuesday night in Metro Lakes Conference action.

Williams put the Lady Zebras up 1-0 after taking a cross-field assist from Olivia Maulsby.

The lead held til halftime, and the Lady Zebras used a 35-yard free kick from sophomore defender Chandler Payne to secure the victory.

Throughout the match, Claremore’s offense kept constant pressure on Pryor with the heavy pursuit from Paige Noe, Maulsby and Williams.

In the box, Claremore sophomore Brylee Brasher recorded another shutout and picked up six saves.

The Lady Zebras improved to 5-1 with the win, and will face Tulsa Hale at 6 p.m. on Friday at East Central High School Stadium.

In the boys’ game, the Pryor Tigers knocked off the Class 5A No. 5-ranked Zebras, 2-1.

Pryor scored on a pair of penalty kicks inside the box to hold off the feisty Zebras.

Claremore junior forward Bear Hope recorded his eighth goal of the season with an unassisted shot past the grasp of Pryor keeper Ryan Ogg to put the Zebras up 1-0.

Claremore (4-3) looked to take a 2-0 lead but junior midfielder Grant Melton’s shot from the left hash sailed over the goal.

Melton and Claremore senior sweeper Nick Hrdlicka had several scoring opportunities in the second half but Ogg’s towering frame in the net was hard to master for the Zebras.
