NCAA WOMEN'S BB: Baylor ends up No. 1 in final AP poll

WACO, Texas — Baylor finishes No. 1 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll for the second straight year.

The Lady Bears were the top choice for the final 11 weeks of the season and received all 40 first-place votes for the fourth straight week.

"I am very fortunate to be able to coach this group of players,'' Baylor coach Kim Mulkey said. "They strive to be the best they can be and have worked hard to get to and stay at the top of their game. The No. 1 ranking is another example that their efforts have paid off.''

Baylor (32-1) will host the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament, which begins Saturday. The only hiccup on the season for the Lady Bears was a loss to Stanford in the middle of November.

The Lady Bears were followed by Notre Dame, Connecticut, Stanford and Duke. The Irish edged UConn last Tuesday to win their first Big East tournament title. Notre Dame's only loss this season came to Baylor.

California, Kentucky, Penn State, Texas A&M and Tennessee round out the first 10. With so few games this past week, the Top 25 remained unchanged from the week before.
