SOFTBALL: RSU duo named Capital One Academic All-District

OKLAHOMA CITY — The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday the Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams and two Rogers State Hillcats were among those named to the District 7 College Division Team.



Senior left fielder Katrina Loy was named to the team for the second consecutive season while sophomore pitcher Laura Fleck was one of two pitchers named to the team.



District 7 consists of NAIA and two-year schools from Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah and Wyoming as voted upon by CoSIDA members in the district.



Loy was a third team Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division member in 2012. The Claremore, Okla. native is the first-ever back-to-back softball player named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. She was the first student-athlete to receive such honors in RSU softball history. As a senior this season she has played in 46 of the Hillcats 51 games starting 35. Loy is batting .274 on the season with five home runs, seven doubles and 29 RBI. She has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in left field this season.



Fleck in just her second year on the Hill has totaled a 27-11 record in 41 games played. The Muskogee, Okla. native has started 36 contests this year with 29 complete games. She has pitched 229 total innings over the 2013 campaign with 117 strikeouts and a 3.18 ERA. As the Hillcats number one pitcher in 2012 as a freshman Fleck led the team in innings pitched , strikeouts, complete games, appearances, and wins. She finished her freshman season with a 2.77 ERA and was one win shy of the single season school record.



Loy and Fleck are joined by members of Oklahoma Baptist, St. Gregory’s and Oklahoma City from the Sooner Athletic Conference. The SAC totaled seven of the 11 student-athletes recognized in the District 7 College Division Team.



To be eligible student athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games, completed one full calendar year at her institution and reached sophomore athletic eligibility. A cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better is also required of all nominees.



The Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-America team for the college division is scheduled to be released on Monday, May 20.
