The Claremore Zebras swept a pair of District 5A-4 soccer games from the Tulsa East Central Cardinals Friday night at the East Side Sports Complex.
The No. 10 Claremore boys edged No. 4 East Central, 2-1 in a shootout. The Zebras won 4-3 on penalty kicks.
Meanwhile, the top-ranked Lady Zebras had no trouble as they blanked the Lady Cardinals 7-0.
The Claremore boys even their record at 4-4 while the Lady Zebras are now 7-1.
Claremore has its next action Tuesday at Collinsville and then returns home next Friday to face Tulsa Hale.
Zebras win 2-1
The Zebras trailed until Austin McKinney found the back of the net from about 25 yards out in the 57th minute.
The game eventually reached the shootout. Both teams scored on their first tries but the Cardinals hit the post on their second attempt.
McKinney then put Claremore ahead for good as he converted on the second try for the Zebras.
Both sides made their next two shots.
East Central then missed on its final attempt. Claremore would have had another chance if the Cards had made but it was not necessary.
Zebra goalkeeper Zane Greer also came up big. Greer made 14 saves but none was bigger than his stop on a penalty shot after Claremore was whistled for a hand ball in the crease five minutes into the first extra frame.
Lady Zebras roll 7-0
Senior forward Cailin Caldwell registerd a hat trick and Bailey Bacon added a pair of goals for the Zebras.
Caldwell broke the ice with her first goal in the 16th minute. Bacon scored in the 19th and 31st minute, respectively.
Jordan Pettay found the back of the net for Claremore’s other first half goal exactly 60 seconds after Bacon's first score.
Caldwell got her other goals in the 62nd and 73rd minute, respectively.
Sophomore forward Taylor Williams then scored in the 76th minute for the final margin.
