Lady Zebra golfers place 3rd at Heritage Hills

CLAREMORE — The Claremore Lady Zebra golf team capped off the Lady Zebra Invitational last week with a third place overall finish at Heritage Hills.

Claremore shot a 408 to finish behind tournament winner Owasso (384) and second place Coweta (392). Grove was fourth with a 417, while Oologah placed fifth with a 425.

Claremore’s Alyssa Brown led the Lady Zebras with a ninth-place overall finish after firing a 94 (46-48). Lori Cohen also contributed with a 103 (53-50), followed by Paige Hrdlicka’s 104 (52-52) and Hayley Grubb’s 107 (54-53). McKenzie Farstead capped off the day for the Lady Zebras with a 109 (53-56).

Oologah’s Megan McDaniels tied for fourth after firing an 89 (46-43). Also contributing for Oologah were: Amy Albritton and Michelle Edgecombe with a 111, Savannah Morgan with a 114 and Anna Pearson with a 123.

The Catoosa Lady Indians finished seventh with a total score of 445. Mallary Martindale led Catoosa with a 105, followed by Jayde Hightower with a 108, Hannah Sipe with a 115 and Cassie Weeks with a 117.

Sapulpa’s KayLee Hacker was the overall winner in the tournament with a 80. Claremore Christian’s Addie Losornio also tied for fifth with an 89.

    For the second-straight year, the Claremore Zebra student training staff will be represented in the Oklahoma Coaches All-State games held in Tulsa.
    Meranda Golbek and Sarah Szcinski, a pair of 2014 Claremore High School graduates, earned All-State honors for their athletic training careers and will join two other student trainers from Jenks and Stillwater High School on the East squad.

  • BIG 12: Cowboys preparing early for FSU QB Winston

    Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer has spent considerable time this summer trying to find flaws in Jameis Winston's game.

    He's still searching.

    Oklahoma State opens the season against last year's Heisman Trophy winner and defending national champion Florida State on Aug. 30 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Though practice doesn't start until Aug. 1, Spencer already is stressed about dealing with Winston.

    Oklahoma got a lot of attention with its upset victory over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

    As good as it was for the program, the Sooners are looking forward. The Big 12 favorites begin practice Aug. 5 in preparation for the Aug. 30 opener against Louisiana Tech.

    Three quarterbacks took turns throwing as the New England Patriots began training camp Thursday.

    It's the 15th for Tom Brady, the fourth for Ryan Mallett and the first for Jimmy Garoppolo.

    Under a bright blue sky, Green Bay team brass gave shareholders a rosy forecast Thursday for the future of the NFL's only publicly-owned franchise.

    About the only thing missing from this green-and-gold picture was former star Brett Favre swaggering on to the Lambeau Field turf to toss around a football with current franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
