Short named to All-VYPE wrestling team

CLAREMORE — Claremore High School senior Brycen Short closed out his prep wrestling career with impressive honors at the statewide level.

Short, who placed third overall in the Class 5A State Meet  last month, was recently recognized on the 2013 Eastern Oklahoma All-VYPE Large School wrestling team.

Short was honored in the 160-weight division by the statewide publication that focuses on high school and collegiate athletics.

Joining Short on the All-VYPE Eastern Oklahoma wrestling team were: Christian Moody, Collinsville, 106-pound class; Davion Jeffries, Collinsville, 113-pound class; Donald Cannon, McAlester, 120-pound class; Luke Wolfenberger, Tulsa Union, 126-pound class; Will Steltzlen, Collinsville, 132-pound class; Gary Wayne Harding, Collinsville, 138-pound class; Tanner Bailey, Broken Arrow, 145-pound class; Paden Bailey, Broken Arrow, 152-pound class; Zach Abkemeier, Collinsville, 170-pound class; Kristian Mendez, Sapulpa, 182-pound class; Keenan Priddy, Collinsville, 195-pound class; Nic Roller, Bixby, 220-pound class; and Carlos Taylor, Broken Arrow, 285-pound class.

Inola’s Jake Barrett, in the 182-pound weight class, was named to the first team Small School All-VYPE wrestling squad and Catoosa’s Darren Fowler earned second-team recognition in the 145-pound weight division.
