TULSA — The Class 3A No. 1-ranked Verdigris Cardinals soared through opening day of the Victory Christian Baseball Tournament behind senior ace pitcher Blake Battenfield.

After cruising past Victory Christian, 11-0 in the first of two games Friday afternoon, the highly-potent Cardinals rode the strong right arm of Battenfield to a 14-2 victory over Morris.
