DENTON — Samantha Chrisman hit a home run and had three RBIs to help power the Oklahoma State softball team to a 4-3 victory against Iowa to wrap up play at the Lovelace Invitational Sunday afternoon.
In a rematch from Friday, the Cowgirls got on the board first in the top of the second innings when Chrisman powered a line drive home run over the right-field wall to give OSU a 1-0 lead.
OSU added three more runs in the top of the fifth when Shelby Davis scored on a single through the left side by Tarah Ettinger. Next, Chrisman drove in two runs with a double down the leftfield line, scoring Shannon Kaufman and Ettinger to give the Cowgirls a 4-0 lead.
The Hawkeyes made things interesting in the bottom of the sixth, picking up three runs to cut the Cowgirls' lead to 4-3. However, that was is as close as it got.
Starter Kat Espinosa went 2-2/3 innings, allowing no runs on one hit and striking out two. Reliever Simone Freeman (3-2) picked up the win, going 4-1/3, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five of the 16 batters she faced.
Oklahoma State (5-4) returns to action February 21 when the Cowgirls travel to Palm Springs, Calif., to compete in the Cathedral City Classic.
