Just call Verdigris senior running back Tanner Smith ... Mr. 2,000.
Smith eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark last Friday night following a 289-yard performance in the Cardinals’ 36-20 win over Sperry.
The 5-foot-11, 210-pound tailback carried 37 times for 289 yards and scored four touchdowns in the regular season finale.
Smith’s milestone moment helped the senior captain become the first Cardinals’ running back to rush for 2,000-plus yards in a single season.
On the season, Smith has 241 carries for 2,033 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Last week, Smith was named a finalist in the Wendy’s ‘High School Heisman’ for the state of Oklahoma.
Verdigris hosts Morris on Friday in the 3A playoffs.
