Sequoyah tangles with Victory Christian in playoffs

SEQUOYAH — The Class 3A playoffs will get underway Friday night with a familiar face — Claremore Sequoyah — looking to make some noise.

The Sequoyah Eagles (5-5) travel to Victory Christian (10-0) for a 7:30 p.m. first-round showdown in Tulsa.

Sequoyah advanced to the postseason following a 31-21 win over Dewey in the regular season District 3A-5 finale.

The winner of the Sequoyah-Victory Christian game will face Lincoln Christian or Roland in the second round on Nov. 16.

Sequoyah’s defense — led by linebacker Garrett Shepherd — looks to stop an explosive Victory Christian offense that is averaging 35.6 points per game.
