Strickland claims 1st in 100-meter hurdles

Claremore places 6th at Lady Zebra Invitational

CLAREMORE — Claremore’s Lane Strickland hurdled her way to a first-place finish last Thursday in the annual Lady Zebra Invitational at Andy Payne Track.

Strickland’s impressive performance helped the Lady Zebras placed sixth overall in the meet with 47 points.

The Claremore hurdler was one of two Lady Zebras to take home top honors in their events, as Ashlyn Glenn also tied for first place in the high jump.

Coming out in the 100-meter hurdles, Strickland held off Yukon’s Bailey Donaldson by two-tenths of a second for first place with a time of 16.89 seconds. Donaldson came in second with a 16.91 and Booker T. Washington’s Shiane Williams was third with a 16.93.

Strickland also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.42. Williams led BTW to the first place finish in the event with a 48.95.

In the high jump, Glenn tied with Miami’s Alyssa Hammons and Tahlequah’s Jordan Roach for top honors. Each contestant recorded a leap of 5-0 in the event.

Claremore sophomore Cherokee Gott added to the Lady Zebras strong showing with a second-place finish in the 3,200-meter run. Gott ran the race in a time of 12:28.27 to finish behind Yukon’s Emma Green, who recorded a 12:25.43.

Claremore Sequoyah’s Hunter Thompson was fourth in the 3,200 with a time of 13:18.99.

Claremore placed fifth in the 400-meter relay with a 55.06; and Claremore Sequoyah was fourth in the 800-meter relay with a 1:55.66.

In the 3,200-meter relay, Claremore Sequoyah came in third place with a 10:51.62.

Claremore’s Jessica McGill placed second in the pole vault with a jump of 8-0.

Oologah’s Morgan Jackson also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 10 inches.

Oologah’s Brooke Hill closed out the meet with a fourth place finish in the discus on a throw of 95 feet, 7 inches.

Claremore Sequoyah placed eighth overall with 26 points and Oologah finished 11th with 12 points. BTW won the meet with 133 points.
