CLAREMORE — In front of a Hillcat Homecoming crowd the Rogers State women’s basketball team gave those on hand something to cheer about with a 90-52 victory over the Ecclesia College Royals Saturday at the Claremore Expo.

Mikaila Newton came off the bench to lead the Hillcats in scoring as she totaled 19 points. The Omaha, Neb. native hit 50 percent from 3-point range as she knocked in 4-of-8 on the afternoon. Newton was one of five Hillcats to reach double digit scoring.

RSU built a double digit lead in the opening 7:30 of the contest and never looked back as the Cats led by 37 points at the intermission.

Clarissa Cannon led the Hillcats in the battle of the boards, one RSU would win at a 47-23 clip, as the senior forward pulled down 14 rebounds to go with 16 points. The season opening double-double is the second one in the Las Vegas, Nev. native’s Hillcat career.

Katy Harsen totaled 12 points, tallying 10 in the opening half of play, as she finished with two assists and two steals. DaNara Day and Kami Bunch both posted 11 points in their first start as Hillcats.

Tabitha Nelson led the Royals in scoring with 21 points as two others eclipsed double digit scoring.

The 38 point victory marks the largest victory in Hillcat Homecoming history besting the earlier mark set in 2009 as RSU defeated Central Christian College 81-51.

The Hillcat women shot 47.8 percent from the field and 69.6 percent from the charity stripe. Ecclesia (1-5) shot 44.4 percent in the field but a lowly 11.1 percent from 3-point range.
