CLAREMORE — The top four hitters in the Claremore ‘2A’ Zebras lineup proved to be tough to handle Tuesday night in a American Legion doubleheader against Skiatook at Legendary Legion Field.

Claremore’s Jeff Oxford, Joe Clifton, Nick Dotson and Hayden Jones combined for nine of the Zebras’ 14 hits in Game 1.

Oxford’s 3-for-4 outing with three singles and Dustin Weiesnbach’s 2-for-3  performance with a double and triple lifted the 2A Zebras to a 12-0 win in the first game.

Claremore’s offense struck early and often against Skiatook as Oxford led off the first with a single and later scored on the sacrifice groundout by Jones to make it 1-0.

Joe Clifton reached first on a base hit but was thrown out at second base on Nick Dotson’s fielder’s choice to shortstop.

Dotson tallied Claremore’s second run in the first as the freshman catcher scored from third base on a fielding error by the Bulldogs.

Claremore pitcher Luis Chavarria held Skiatook to one hit without a run in the first inning.

Claremore extended its lead to 6-0 in the second thanks to extra base hits from Spencer Sullivan, Weiesnbach and Clifton.

Sullivan opened the second with a standup double, advanced to third on the wild pitch and scored on Parker Price’s sacrifice fly to left field to make it 3-0.

One batter later, Weiesnbach ripped a one-out triple to deep left field and scored on Oxford’s RBI-single through the middle to increase the lead to 4-0.

Claremore’s aggressive attitude continued with Clifton driving in Oxford on a towering double to center field to make it 5-0.

Dotson capped the Claremore scoring in the second with an RBI-single that plated Clifton to put the Zebras up 6-0.

Chavarria continued to dominate Skiatook’s lineup with six strikeouts on one hit through three innings.

In the bottom of the third inning, Claremore plated its final six runs to bury the Bulldogs and cruise to a 12-0 victory.

Weiesnbach’s double got things rolling with one out in the third, and Oxford’s RBI-single plated the Claremore baserunner to make it 7-0.

Back-to-back singles by Dotson and Jones with two outs increased Claremore’s lead to 10-0.

Claremore’s Brady Kropp ripped an RBI-single to right-center field and Sullivan plated a run with a single to left field to make it 12-0.

Chavarria notched the win with seven strikeouts on one hit and no runs scored through four complete innings.

In the nightcap, Claremore’s Oxford went 2-for-2 with two singles to lead the Zebras past Skiatook, 7-1.

Claremore tallied three runs in the bottom of the second inning to go up 3-0.

Bryson Vanover drove in Kyle Chancellor with an RBI-single to right field. Justin Ragsdale plated Claremore’s first run after reaching base on the hit by pitch and then scoring on the wild pitch.

Weiesnbach reached first on the fielder’s choice and then advanced to third base on Oxford’s single to center field. Another wild pitch from Skiatook allowed Weiesnbach to score and cap off Claremore’s second inning.

Weiesnbach picked up the win on the mound, allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts in five innings.

Claremore pushed its lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the third inning on back-to-back singles by Kropp and Ragsdale.

Cole Williams drew a walk to load the bases, while pinch hitter Dakota Rader and third baseman (Nick) Dotson provided RBI-singles.

The 2A Zebras improved to 4-1 on the season with their series sweep over Skiatook.

Claremore returns to action at 5:30 and 7 p.m. on Friday at Collinsville.
