Stilwell’s Lea signs with RSU men's basketball

CLAREMORE — Rogers State University men's basketball head coach Justin Barkley announced the addition of standout center Matt Lea for the 2014-15 season.

"We are extremely excited about adding Matt to the Hillcat basketball family," Barkley said. "He had an outstanding prep career at Stilwell. Not only did we feel we got an exceptional basketball player, we feel we got an even better person. I am looking forward to going to work with Matt over the next 4-5 years. He has a bright future in our program."

Lea was recently named Most Valuable Player of the 2014 Class 4A Oklahoma State Tournament and a member of the All-Tournament team after leading his Stilwell High School team to a runner-up finish scoring 72 points in three tournament games.

The 6-foot-8 senior led the state in blocks while averaging 16.5 points and 10.8 rebounds a game earning Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Region 3 and Class 4A Player of the Year accolades for the 2013-14 season.

A four-year letter winner for head coach Ron Dunaway and the Indians, Lea averaged a double-double per game over his final three seasons and was a finalist for the VYPE Mr. Basketball award as a senior.

RSU enters its second season as a member of the Heartland Conference as it continues the transition to NCAA Division II membership.
