Oologah clips Wichita, 49-47

OOLOGAH — The Oologah Mustangs picked up a huge win Friday night, beating Wichita (Kan.) 49-47 in non-conference action.

Both teams were dead-locked at 13 after the first quarter, and Oologah outscored Wichita, 13-6 in the second quarter to lead 26-19 at halftime.

Breyden DeSpain carried the scoring load for the Mustangs with a game-high 24 points.

Kolton Kitterman also contributed in double figures with 16 points for the Mustangs.

Oologah continued to hold on to the lead in the third quarter with six points en route to extending the margin to 32-26 with the fourth quarter remaining.

Helping supply scoring for the Mustangs were Levi Potter with four points, Cody Iceberg with three and Ezra Deaton with two.

Wichita outscored Oologah, 21-17 in the fourth quarter.

Wilken tallied 21 points and Ammons had 15 for Wichita.

The Mustangs return to action on Tuesday night, hosting winless Claremore at 8 p.m.

Lady ‘Stangs roll to victory

Ali Nakvinda scored a game-high 24 points and Taylor McElhaney added 16 to lead the Oologah Lady Mustangs past Rose Hill (Kan.) 62-39 Friday night in non-conference action.

Brinley Evans also chipped in 11 points to round out Oologah’s double-figure scoring.

The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter and 32-13 at halftime.

Nakvinda and McElhaney controlled the interior for the Lady Mustangs, while Evans and Alex Edinger worked the perimeter.

Edinger answered with six points in the game, and Courtney Sappington chipped in three. Also, Kelsey Garrison added two for the Lady Mustangs.

Lipscomb led Rose Hill with 12 points.

On Thursday night, the Lady Mustangs throttled Word of Life (Kan.), 58-20.

Nakvinda sparked the Lady Mustangs with 16 points and McElhaney poured in 12.

The Lady Mustangs led 12-2 in the first quarter and pushed the margin to 27-10 at halftime.

Oologah returns to action at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Claremore.
