VERDIGRIS — Verdigris High School senior pitcher Blake Battenfield became the newest member of the 2012-13 Oklahoma State University baseball signing class.

Battenfield, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound right-handed hurler, signed a NCAA Division I letter of intent Friday afternoon with the Big 12 Conference powerhouse.

The Cardinals’ ace pitcher — who helped lead Verdigris to three-straight Class 3A state championships in 2010, 2011 and 2012 — will join Jenks pitcher Thomas Hatch and Broken Arrow pitcher Trey Cobb as incoming freshmen in the fall of 2013.

OSU’s pitching staff is under the direction of former Oral Roberts University head baseball coach Rob Walton.

Also expected to sign a national letter of intent with OSU is current Owasso Rams shortstop Andrew Rosa.
