CLAREMORE — The Claremore ‘2A’ Zebras got behind early to Collinsville and never could recover in a doubleheader sweep by the Cardinals Tuesday afternoon in the regular season home finale at Legendary Legion Field.

The back-to-back losses dropped Claremore to 12-7 on the season. Claremore will officially close out the summer league season on the road Friday at Vinita. Game times are set for 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.

Collinsville, which beat Claremore twice on Monday, extended its win streak to four straight over the Zebras with another dominating performance.

Collinsville jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Dillon Russell and Chase Lorey produced run-scoring singles off Claremore starting pitcher Shawn Gordon.

Leading 2-0, Collinsville’s Dylan Beilew smashed an RBI-double to right-center field to score Lorey. Next batter up, Zack Littlefield ripped an RBI-single to center field to plate Beilew and cap the Collinsville scoring at 4-0.

Claremore, however, found its offense in the bottom half of the second inning as Brady Brim led off with a single to left field. Brim later scored on Dakota Rader’s RBI-single to right-center field to narrow the deficit to 4-1.

A two-out RBI-single to third base by Dustin Weiesnbach plated Spencer Sullivan to make it 4-2, and then Parker Price’s hit that caromed off the glove of the Collinsville second baseman plated Rader to cap the second with Claremore  trailing 4-3.

Brim’s defense in the top of the third inning, thanks to a stunning diving catch in right field, sparked Claremore and kept Collinsville from scoring after Lorey’s single to center field.

Brady Kropp, however, led off the bottom of the third with a standup single to center field, but Claremore was unable to advance the runner after three straight putouts.

Collinsville blew the game open in the top of the fourth with four runs on three hits, including a pair of two-run doubles by Cory Pool and Lorey to go up 8-3.

Collinsville relief pitcher Alex Austin retired Claremore in order in the fourth and held the Zebras without a hit in the fifth to secure the win for the Cardinals.

Gordon suffered the loss for Claremore after throwing five complete innings and allowing eight runs on 10 hits.

In the nightcap, Collinsville silenced Claremore’s offense and enjoyed a 3-0 victory.

Claremore starting pitcher Brady Brim suffered the loss after allowing three runs on seven hits.

Collinsville tallied all three runs in the first three innings to set the tone.

Claremore’s offense only threaten once with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third inning, but were unable to produce a run.

Price and Nick Dotson led the Claremore offense with three combined hits.
