One of the biggest decisions of her upcoming senior year is finally behind Verdigris High School soccer standout Caitlyn Hanslovan.
The four-year letterwinner and three-time Class 4A state champion forward announced Tuesday that she will commit to playing NCAA Division I soccer at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.
For Hanslovan, it’s a dream come true and a lot of hard work paying off.
Hanslovan follows in the footsteps of former Verdigris All-State forward Emily Hahn, who signed with Tulsa University out of high school.
Hahn, however, has since transferred to the University of Central Oklahoma, where she will compete for the Bronchos at the NCAA Division II level.
This past season, Hanslovan helped power the Lady Cardinals to their fifth-straight 4A state championship game and their third consecutive state title.
In the state finals, Hanslovan scored a pair of goals — one in each half — to spark the Lady Cardinals past Fort Gibson, 3-0.
The 5-foot-5 forward capped off an impressive junior season with 22 goals on 63 shots in 16 games.
Hanslovan also contributed with 16 assists.
As a sophomore, Hanslovan overpowered opponents with 33 goals on 71 shots.
Hanslovan’s best outing came in the 2012 4A state championship game, where she scored four goals in the Lady Cardinals’ 4-0 win over Bethany.
Then, as a freshman, Hanslovan tallied 14 goals on 69 shots with eight assists.
During that season, Hanslovan teamed with Hahn to form a potent scoring attack that combined for 50 goals.
“Caitlyn’s pretty amazing,” said Verdigris head soccer coach Stacy Risenhoover in a previous Claremore Daily Progress article. “She plays with such poise and is a very determined young lady.”
Risenhoover added that when Hanslovan is on the top of her game, there’s not many players in the state that are going to out-play her.
“She just has a knack for the goal,” Risenhoover said.
In the past two state finals, Hanslovan has saved her best performances for the biggest stage. She has six total goals in two state championship games.
Note: Hanslovan goes into her senior year at Verdigris High School with 69 total goals.
