RSU's Reyes, Apolinar compete in NAIA Track/Field National Championships

MARION, Ind. — Rogers State student-athletes Oscar Reyes and Maria Apolinar will compete in the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships which are set to take place in Marion, Ind., from May 23–25.

Reyes and Apolinar will both compete in the marathon at the championship on Saturday, May 25 at 6 a.m. There are 51 male qualifiers and 45 female qualifiers running in the event. Reyes punched his ticket to the championship with a 12th place finish at the Moundbuilder Half Marathon hosted by Southwestern College (Kan.) in December. The junior registered a time of 1:14:07. Apolinar qualified on April 6 with a time of 1:30:56 at the Bentonville Running Festival Half Marathon.

Indiana Wesleyan University will host the 2013 national championships for the fourth-straight year. The city becomes the fifth different in championships history to host this event for four-or-more consecutive years.

    Skalnik, who was the lone senior this season for Verdigris and a four-time Class 3A state champion, thrived under pressure in the top of the third inning for the East.

  • BASEBALL: Larue, Skalnik power East to 3-0 victory

    The East blanked the West 3-0 in the Large School All-State Baseball Game Tuesday night at J. L. Johnson Stadium on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
    Claremore catcher Matt Whatley and third baseman Ryan Skalnik of Verdigris represented Rogers County in the contest.
    Skalnik finished 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI's.  Whatley was 0-for-1 with a walk.

  • NBA: Bosh signs 5-year, $118M deal with Heat

    Chris Bosh has signed his $118 million, five-year contract to stay with the Miami Heat.

    The team says Bosh signed the deal Wednesday. The sides agreed on the terms earlier this month, but the paperwork could not be completed because Bosh was on a lengthy international vacation and needed to undergo a physical before signing.
