Zebras open pool play in Aggie Classic

PENSACOLA, Fla. — The Class 5A No. 2-ranked Claremore Zebras opened the Tate Aggie Classic  Monday afternoon in Pensacola, Fla.

One of 22 teams competing in the 20th Annual Aggie Classic, the Zebras (8-0) kicked off the four-day tournament facing Good Pasture (Tenn.) in pool play.

Coming into the tournament, the Zebras have been solid on defense with strong pitching from juniors Bryce Howe and Cole Weiesnbach, as well as seniors Jacob Teague, Dalton Clifton, Tyler Cagle and Konnor Dobbins.

Howe (3-0) struck out 13 hitters in his six-inning performance of a 5-2 win over Booker T. Washington last Thursday at American Legion Park.

Teague and Clifton managed to hold off the Hornets last Friday and used three home runs from Isaac Hollihan (2) and Howe to defeat Booker T. Washington, 6-4 in Metro Lakes Conference play.

Hollihan’s sparks the Zebra offense with a team-high three home runs, including a third-inning grand slam in Claremore’s 5-2 win over the Hornets.

The Zebras continued pool play in the Aggie Classic today with a 4 p.m. game against McAdory.

Wednesday’s pool play action has the Zebras battling Arlington County Day at 7 p.m.

Bracket play of the Aggie Classic starts Thursday.

Along with Claremore, the other teams from Oklahoma are Pryor, Norman North, Washington, Tahlequah, Jay and Edmond North.
