Zebras take 4th at Jenks Meet

JENKS — The Claremore Zebras brought home fourth place in the Jenks track meet Friday evening.

Claremore tallied 48 points to finish behind Jenks (161), Broken Arrow (144) and Tulsa Union (108).

Tyler Jackson highlighted the Zebras strong finish with a first-place performance in the 200-meter dash.

Jackson clocked a time of 21.43 seconds to beat Jenks’ Tye, who finished second with a 21.96.

In the 400-meter dash, Jackson soared to a first place finish with a time of 48.40 seconds. Jackson beat Broken Arrow’s Cre Moore, who was second with a 49.78.

In the 100-meter dash, Jackson came in second place behind Broken Arrow’s Starks with a time of 10.80 seconds. Starks won the event with a 10.78.

Claremore’s Anthony Wolfe also picked up points in the hurdles.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Wolfe was fourth with a time of 16.10 seconds. Then, in the 300-meter hurdles, Wolfe placed fourth with a time of 42.59.

In the high jump, Claremore’s Reid Joyner finished third with a leap of 6-feet, while Hunter Garroutte was fifth with a jump of 5 feet 10 inches.

Tahlequah placed fifth with 32 points.

The Owasso Rams finished with 12 total points for 10th place.

    None more important than Tuesday’s appearance in the Large School East-West All-State Game at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa.
    Skalnik, who was the lone senior this season for Verdigris and a four-time Class 3A state champion, thrived under pressure in the top of the third inning for the East.

  • BASEBALL: Larue, Skalnik power East to 3-0 victory

    The East blanked the West 3-0 in the Large School All-State Baseball Game Tuesday night at J. L. Johnson Stadium on the campus of Oral Roberts University.
    Claremore catcher Matt Whatley and third baseman Ryan Skalnik of Verdigris represented Rogers County in the contest.
    Skalnik finished 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI's.  Whatley was 0-for-1 with a walk.
