McAdory (Ala.) hands Zebras second loss of Aggie Classic

PENSACOLA, Fla. — After starting the season with eight straight wins, the Claremore Zebras have suffered back-to-back losses in the 20th Annual Tate Aggie Classic.

Claremore, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A with an 8-2 record, lost to McAdory (Ala.) 6-1 in pool play.

After Claremore took a 1-0 lead, McAdory went on a six-run scoring spree to improve to 1-1 in pool play.

The Zebras finished up the third day of pool play Wednesday night against Arlington Country Day.

Coming into Wednesday’s game, the Zebras were 0-2 in the Aggie Classic and opponents held a 10-1 scoring advantage on Claremore.

Arlington Country Day, meanwhile, moved to 2-0 in the Classic and compiled a 24-6 scoring edge over the opposition.

On Tuesday, Arlington Country Day rolled past Class 6A Westmoore (Okla.) 10-2.

Depending on the outcome of Wednesday’s game against Arlington Country Day, the Zebras will conclude the Aggie Classic today in bracket play.

After competing in Florida, the Zebras return to non-conference play at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Pryor.

Later that week, Claremore will compete in the annual Tiger-Zebra Classic held at American Legion Park in both Claremore and Pryor.

The Pryor Tigers, under the head coaching of Gerald Osborne, moved to 1-1 in the Aggie Classic with an 8-5 win over West Florida.

Pryor needed eight innings to notch its first win in pool play.

Casey Holloway drove in a pair of runs in the eighth inning to seal the win for the Tigers.

In the first game of pool play, Arlington Country Day run-ruled Pryor, 14-4.

On Wednesday, Pryor looked to finish pool play with a winning record, battling Greenwood (Ark.).

The Tahlequah Tigers also claimed a 9-6 win over Overton (Fla.) in the second day of pool play.

Tahlequah is 1-1 in the Aggie Classic and has allowed a 10-9 scoring advantage to the opposition.

The Grove Roughriders dropped to 0-2 in pool play Tuesday afternoon following their 5-1 loss to Pensacola (Fla.) Washington.

The Edmond North Huskies moved to 2-0 in pool play Tuesday with a 3-1 win over Navarre (Fla.).  The Huskies have outscored the opposition, 6-2 in both of their pool play games.
