CLAREMORE — The ‘hottest ticket’ in Rogers County takes place Tuesday evening at Verdigris High School.

It’s that time of the year for the annual “Battle of Rogers County” on the soccer pitch. This year, though, the non-conference doubleheader is one fans don’t want to miss.

The Class 5A No. 1-ranked Claremore Lady Zebras (4-0) look to keep their perfect record against the three-time Class 4A state champion Verdigris Lady Cardinals. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.

Under the leadership of veteran head coach Robin Sutherland, who was a NAIA women’s soccer standout at Rogers State University, the Lady Zebras have dominated the competition so far this season and outscored their opponents,  12-3.

Senior forward Cailin Caldwell and sophomore forward Taylor Williams spearhead the Lady Zebras’ scoring attack, while junior sweeper Anna McGuire and junior midfielder Katelin Teeter anchor the defense.

Claremore will, however, face a potent Verdigris offense — led by 2012 Class 4A State MVP Caitlyn Hanslovan. Hanslovan produced a season-high 33 goals in 2012.

Note: Claremore defeated Verdigris, 4-1 in 2012 at Lantow Field.
