HAYS, Kan. —
Amanda McClelland picked up two pitching wins and No. 16-ranked Central Oklahoma banged out 22 hits in sweeping a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader from Nebraska-Kearney here Friday.
McClelland threw a four-hitter in a 5-2 first-game win before starting and going the first four innings in a 6-4 come-from-behind victory in the nightcap as the Bronchos won for the 10th time in 11 outings, improving to 20-5 on the year and 5-1 in the league.
The games were moved to Hays from Kearney, Neb. Because of snow, with UCO's Saturday doubleheader in Hays against Fort Hays State cancelled because of another winter storm expected overnight.
Kacie Edwards had three hits to lead a 12-hit attack in the opener, with Devyn Frazier, Hayley Hudson and Kaylee Brunson adding two apiece. McClelland struck out six while giving up one unearned run in the pitching win.
UCO took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Tori Collet's two-run home run, then made it 3-0 in the third when Edwards delivered an RBI double. The Lopers scored their first run in the bottom of the third, with the Bronchos gaining breathing room on Hudson's two-run single in the fifth.
UNK made it 5-2 in the sixth before McClelland closed out the complete-game win.
The Bronchos had 10 hits in the nightcap, with Hudson, Collet, Brunson and Nicole Workman collecting two each.
Hudson had an RBI single in a two-run second that put UCO on top, but the Lopers came back with two runs in the bottom of that inning and again in the third to move in front 4-2.
Sam Cool's two-out run-scoring single in the third pulled the Bronchos within 4-3 and UCO took the lead with three unearned runs in the fourth, scoring two runs on a dropped fly ball and the final one on a Hudson single.
McClelland went the first four innings to earn the pitching win, improving to 5-1, while Kalynn Schrock hurled three hitless innings to close out the game and pick up her third save.
